Every sound on this site is synthesized. If you live near one of these places, you can help replace a guess with the real thing.

How to record

Stay on public property.: A sidewalk, a public road, a footpath. Do not climb anything or go through a gate.
Leave security alone.: If someone asks you to move on, move on. No recording is worth the conversation.
No people.: Record when nobody is talking nearby. If a voice gets in, trim it out or start again.
Let it run.: Two minutes of steady sound at the very least, longer if you can. Hold still and keep the microphone out of the wind.
Note the spot.: Which street, which side of the building, roughly how far away.
A phone is fine.: Use the highest quality setting your recording app has, and switch off noise reduction if it offers it.

A person listens to every submission before anything is published. The file you send stays private; only a cleaned copy, with location and device data removed, ever goes on the site.

Sending a file needs JavaScript, because large recordings are uploaded in parts. Everything else on the site works without it.
